Hosting and server logs

When you visit this site, the hosting provider processes technically necessary data (IP address, time, page requested, browser) to keep the site running (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). This data is deleted after a short period.

The hosting provider is Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Pages). Cloudflare processes this data as a processor under Art. 28 GDPR in order to serve the pages and to defend the site against attack; it is held only briefly and is not combined with any other data.

No cookies, no analytics

This site sets no cookies, embeds no analytics or tracking services, and loads no third-party fonts or scripts — with the exceptions you trigger yourself: YouTube videos and podcast episodes (see below).

Video

Most videos are served from our own server; nothing is transmitted to video platforms when you watch them.

A few videos (such as the trailer for “Der Telefonist”) are hosted on YouTube (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Our pages first show only a preview image from our own server — no connection to YouTube is made until you start the video. Only when you click “play” is the video loaded in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Your IP address and technical details of your browser are then transmitted to YouTube, and YouTube may store data on your device; a transfer to the USA cannot be ruled out. The legal basis is your consent given by the click (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). See Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Podcast episodes (such as those for “Der Telefonist”) play in our own player on this site; the audio files are hosted by the podcast service Spreaker. Here too, no connection is made until you click “play”. Only then is the episode loaded from Spreaker; your IP address and technical details of your browser are transmitted to Spreaker, and a transfer to the USA cannot be ruled out. The legal basis is your consent given by the click (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG).

Links to Spreaker, YouTube and other services lead to external sites, whose providers are responsible for the processing there.

Contact by e-mail and contact form

If you write to us, we process your details to handle the enquiry (Art. 6 (1) (b) or (f) GDPR).

Details submitted through the contact form — your name, e-mail address, chosen subject and message — are forwarded to us by e-mail only. They are not stored on this website: there is no database and no log of form submissions. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR), which you may withdraw at any time with effect for the future, together with our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

Messages are sent through Brevo (Brevo SAS, Paris) as a processor under Art. 28 GDPR. Processing takes place within the EU.

To keep automated submissions out we use Cloudflare Turnstile (Cloudflare, Inc.). It processes your IP address and technical characteristics of your browser to determine whether the request comes from a person. Turnstile sets no advertising cookies and builds no user profile. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in preventing abuse (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

Your message is kept for as long as it takes to deal with it, and beyond that only where statutory retention periods apply.

Membership application

Details submitted through the membership application — title, name, academic title, address, e-mail address, phone numbers (optional), type of membership, fee, and your choices on the newsletter and donation receipt — are sent to the board as an e-mail with the completed application (PDF), and a copy goes to your e-mail address. They are not stored on this website.

We process these details to establish and administer your membership (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR) and keep them for as long as you are a member, and beyond that only where statutory retention periods apply — for instance for fee payments and donation receipts. Sending and protection against automated submissions work as for the contact form, through Brevo and Cloudflare Turnstile (see above).

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — for us, the Lower Saxony data protection commissioner.
